From the Head of Junior School

Congratulations to Year Four who presented a wonderful concert yesterday afternoon. It has been exciting to watch and hear the rehearsals over the past few weeks and I know all boys have enjoyed the experience.

Whilst I was unable to attend, I am told the boys were outstanding performers and their efforts were enjoyed by a most appreciative audience.

I extend thanks to the many staff who assist tirelessly and prepare our boys for such exciting activities.

On Tuesday, I was pleased to present seven Year Six boys with badges for 'School Officer' positions. These additional positions have been created in recognition of the contribution of these boys and the desire of staff to create additional supporting roles around the school.

I have been extremely disappointed to note the number of parents who continue to use the Boarding House precinct to drop off and collect boys.

Boys who have music lessons before or after school still should be dropped off or collected from Callantina Road.

The Boarders precinct is a private area and home of many boys and staff. This is an invasion of their privacy and details of parents who continue to blatantly refuse to adhere to our request will be directed to the Principal.

I urge the cooperation of all families, as I know you would not like increased traffic and inconvenience on your own properties.

Our Olympic theme has continued this week with the visit of Sue Harbottle (Olympic swimmer in 1968.) Sue carried the 2000 torch through Ivanhoe and brought the torch to show the boys.

Several Scotch Senior School staff were also awarded the honour of carrying the torch, allowing Scotch to feel a little closer to the forthcoming 'Games'.

My theme for this week has been ''Honour' Boys were reminded that Honour involves living with a sense of respect for what you believe is right, not feeling ashamed of who you are or what you are doing, recognising that each of us is worthy of respect and setting a good example and doing what is just, regardless of what others think or are doing.

We spoke of the Bible and the many references to how we should honour each other through every day of our living and how we should give honour to God for the wonderful creation he has blessed us with.

Boys were left with the following affirmation.....

"I am honourable. I keep my agreements
and treat others with respect. I live by the virtues.
I care about doing the right thing."

My thought for the week..

Success without honour is an unseasoned dish.
It will satisfy your hunger, but it won't taste too good!

From the Information Technology Department:

The Junior School web site has again been updated and now contains all of the relevant information for Term Three. Some pages have student work samples and others contain photos of activities which occurred in the Junior School last term. Spend some time looking around our updated site.

Also, boys in Years Four - Six began email communication with Scotch Oakburn College in Tasmania this week. The boys have been paired up with an ''e-pal' partner in Tasmania and should be emailing each other on a weekly basis. Much enthusiasm has been displayed already and we look forward to a successful program.

From The Physical Education Department

The Junior School wishes Angus every success as he competes for Victoria in the National Cross Country Championships at Yarra Bend over the weekend. Go Gus!

Last Friday, Year Four boys had a very successful afternoon of sport against Grimwade. There were games of football on the main oval, as well as soccer and hockey. Congratulations to all involved.

There will be no afterschool training on Monday 14 August and Tuesday 15 August.

Mr Peter Hawkins - Head of Junior School Sport
