16 February 2001 No. 3From The Head of the Junior SchoolLast Monday evening attracted many parents to our Prep to Year Three Information Evening. I trust families enjoyed the opportunity of hearing from their son's teacher and meeting socially with other parents following the classroom session. I was pleased to introduce Year 3T parents to Mrs Annmarie Cowley who will be replacing Mrs Taylor at the start of next term, when she commences her maternity leave. Mrs Cowley will be with us until the end of 2002 and, in welcoming her, I wish her well as she joins the College community. Next Monday will see the Year Four and Five Parent Information Evening and I advise parents that, on arrival, they should move directly to their son's classroom. Our Specialist teachers will visit each Year Four classroom in order to be introduced to new families and will also be available during supper if parents wish to seek any clarification of their area. It seems that a constant theme of my newsletters is the parking situation in Callantina Road. Parents may have observed Saturday's Age two weekends ago when a photograph appeared showing vehicles parked, double parked and attempting a U Turn outside the school. I remind parents that the City of Boroondara has advised me that their By Laws Officers will be visiting randomly and booking vehicles in breach of the traffic regulations. It has also been brought to my attention that a number of parents continue to reverse vehicles into parking spaces along Callantina Road and as a result, towbars protrude across the pedestrian access. I am told that this is also an offence and, apart from the potential for injury to pedestrians, parents also risk an Infringement Notice. I know the College community joins with me in urging all parents and care givers to abide by the traffic regulations in place, ensuring the safety of every boy and person using the roads around our school. This Sunday is set to be one of the most memorable days in the life of the College as we welcome our own Torch Relay to Scotch. I remind parents of the expectations outlined in last week's Newsletter. Parents needing clarification or another copy should contact the Office directly. I remind parents that boys are to be in their school summer uniform, including their school hat (of which the 150 Celebration Cap is an acceptable alternative). The 150 Celebration T-shirts may be worn during Physical Education and Sport classes if appropriate. Important Change:A slight change is requested for parents then moving to the Senior School Oval. Parents should still use the service road onto Morrison Street, pass the Randall Building, turning left taking you into the Senior School Quadrangle. Passing the Memorial Hall, parents can then move onto the oval without delaying the progress of the torch. There will be ushers at the appropriate points to assist you. At the conclusion of the Official proceedings parents should make their way to where the Junior School boys are seated and collect your son from there. Boys will not be dismissed to meet parents at other points. Congratulations to our Prep boys who completed their first full day of school - I have no doubt that each boy was more than ready for this special event! My theme for the week has been Consideration. Boys were reminded that when being considerate they respect other people's needs and feelings; consider I left the boys with the following affirmation.... I will be considerate of others. Guy B. Mason MusicYears Four - Six boys who love singing and are not in the Junior School Choir are invited to join the Performing Choir which will rehearse each Wednesday afternoon 3.30 pm - 4.00 pm in the Assembly Hall. Notices have been sent home today and reply slips should be returned to school before the first rehearsal next Wednesday 21 February Miss Jenni Allen -Head of Junior School Music Junior Primary Chapel ServiceA very warm welcome is extended to all families of Prep-Year Three boys, particularly those of Prep and other new boys in Years One, Two and Three, to join us in our first Junior Primary Chapel Service for 2001. The service will be held in the Littlejohn Memorial Chapel (near the Senior School Main Oval) at 2.15 pm on Thursday, 22 February. These services are always well attended, so you are advised to arrive early. Boys may be collected from their classroom at the conclusion of the service. Those boys not collected at the earlier finishing time will remain with their class teacher until the normal dismissal time. We are looking forward to seeing as many families as possible at this special occasion. Chris Robertson - Director of Junior Primary JSPAThe JSPA is pleased with the popularity of the Morning Teas we organised. It was great to see everyone smiling and chatting away happily. Thankyou to those who provided refreshments and assisted with the tea and coffee. The JSPA would also like to thank Guy Mason, Rod Carson and the office and teaching staff for the use of the Junior School Staff Room on those mornings - the parents liked the pleasant venue. Term One is a busy time with curriculum evenings and other information nights to initiate the new school year. However, I hope you will make the time to join other parents and school staff on a social level at the JSPA Cocktail Parties. The class reps, my committee members and I look forward to seeing you there. Alice Chan - President, JSPA 150 MerchandiseParents who did not collect 150 Celebrate Merchandise on Friday 16 February will be able to purchase merchandise and collect orders on Sunday 18 February at a stall beside the Main Oval.
