9 November 2001 No. 32
From Head of the Junior School
I trust all families enjoyed our extended weekend. As a result of the 'long weekend', this week has therefore, been extremely short and has provided a real chance for classes to focus on 'in-house' programs.
Next week we look forward to the Junior School Concert, involving all boys from Year Four to Six. This will be held at the Camberwell Civic Centre on Tuesday, 13 November, commencing promptly at 7.45pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased through the Junior School Office. I remind boys and parents that the winter (formal) uniform is to be worn at the concert.
On Wednesday, we will welcome approximately 300 visitors to the school as we host the presentation of the 2001 YABBA Awards. The Mayor of Boroondara, various authors, illustrators and a host of other guests will join together in the Assembly Hall for this year's award ceremony. Authors will be available for book signing after the awards. This will be a wonderful morning for many of our own students and I wish the organising committee, led by Ms Hindson, every best wish for a successful morning.
The short week has meant we have had no theme running. I do, however, leave you with the following poem as my thought for the week. The author is unknown.
THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL
A weary mother returned from the store,
Lugging groceries through the kitchen door.
Awaiting her arrival was her 8 year old son,
Anxious to relate what his younger brother had done.
"While I was out playing and Dad was on a call,
T.J. took his crayons and wrote on the wall!
It's on the new paper you just hung in the den
I told him you'd be mad at having to do it again.
"She let out a moan and furrowed her brow,
"Where is your little brother right now?"
She emptied her arms and with a purposeful stride,
She marched to his closet where he had gone to hide.
She called his full name as she entered his room.
He trembled with fear--he knew that meant doom!
For the next ten minutes, she ranted and raved
About the expensive wallpaper and how she had saved.
Lamenting all the work it would take to repair,
She condemned his actions and total lack of care.
The more she scolded, the madder she got,
Then stomped from his room, totally distraught!
She headed for the den to confirm her fears.
When she saw the wall, her eyes flooded with tears.
The message she read pierced her soul with a dart.
It said, "I love Mummy," surrounded by a heart.
Well, the wallpaper remained, just as she found it,
With an empty picture frame hung to surround it.
A reminder to her, and indeed to all,
Take time to read the handwriting on the wall.

The enthusiastic response to the position of class representative for Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 in 2002 is very pleasing. There are still vacancies for anyone who is interested in being a class representative in 2002 for Years 3 to 6.
I re-iterate that class representative's role is that of running functions for a particular year level and being complementary to the role of the JSPA committee.
Please do consider taking on a class representative position if you are able. You get to meet other parents and the boys love your involvement.
To register your interest, please fill in the class representative form which is available at the Junior School Office and drop the form the JSPA box.
I look forward to seeing you at the Farewell Morning Tea for Mrs Anne Kimber and Mrs Elizabeth Dawe on Monday morning at 8.30am in the Junior School Staff Common Room.
