5 February 1999 No. 2
From the Head of Junior School
What a tremendous week we have had, as first term is now well on the way. I thank the staff, boys and parents for this wonderful start.
My only concern has been with the collection of boys and ultimately, their safety in the afternoon.
The drop-off/collection zone has been designed to cater for parents to pull in, collect a boy and continue. It concerns me that vehicles are being left unattended in this area, causing other vehicles then to double-park in Callantina Road, which is not designed to cope with this type of parking.
In the interests of all, should you require to enter the school grounds, please park in the designated areas, leaving the drop-off zone free for those to use as designed.
Under no circumstances should parents park opposite the school, or in private driveways and expect boys to cross Callantina Road.
I have been advised by Boroondara Council that they randomly install video surveillance cameras, especially around schools and parking tickets are issued as per speed camera fines. Please beware!
All families should now have received a small pocket book sized school calendar. I encourage all families to make note of calendared activities to avoid unnecessary embarrassment due to double booking of activities.
Today, I was pleased to present badges to the first Class Captains for the Year. Congratulations are extended to:

Thank you to the many Year 6 parents who attended last night's information evening. Please check our "forthcoming dates" for future sessions.
his week, my focus with the boys has continued to be "friendliness". I encouraged the boys to think about the following affirmation:
This week I am friendly. I will smile and say hello to people.
I will share myself and show interest in others. I like myself
and know I can make new friends".

one's own counsel."

Year 7 Scholarships
Year 6 parents who wish their sons to sit for Entrance Scholarships for Year 7 in 2000 are advised to contact the Director of Admissions for further details.
Scholarship Examinations will be held at the College on Saturday, 13 March, 1999. Applications must be received by 4 March, 1999.
The First Day of School
In Germany, on the first day of school, parents give their little kids huge, colourful cardboard cones filled with sweets or small toys. This is to help "sweeten", a little, their first day away from home. This is called a "Schultuete".
This year, 5G and 5W are making them for their cross-age buddies who have their first full day of school coming up soon.
Urgent: Egg Cartons
Used egg cartons are needed for pallets in the Art Room. Boys in years 3-6 will earn House Points for Art materials brought to lessons. I am also collecting margarine and ice-cream containers.
Thank you.

From the Junior Primary Department
Thank you to all boys, parents and teachers for the smooth start to the year. The teachers are looking forward to meeting as many parents as possible at the Prep-3 Information Evening on Monday, 8 February.
Parents waiting to collect boys at the end of the day are reminded that the playground equipment IS NOT to be used by preschoolers who are waiting for their brothers, or by boys who have been dismissed from class.
