19 March 1999 No. 8From the Head of Junior SchoolWelcome back to our Year Five campers! Year Five have enjoyed a wonderful four days in the Port Campbell region and once again, a successful camp has concluded. This completes the major part of our Outdoor Education programme, although Year Two and Year Three eagerly await their turns in Term Four. Camps place enormous responsibility and time constraints on the staff and their families and I sincerely thank them all for their dedication and commitment to ensuring an exciting outdoor programme for our boys. Thanks and congratulations to our 1999 Choir, who performed beautifully in our Monday Assembly. Under the guidance of Miss Jenni Allen and Mrs Penny Byrne, the boys have been working extremely hard and, in turn, are producing a wonderful standard already! Special congratulations are extended to Miss Allen who has been appointed Head of Junior School Music, from the beginning of Term Two. Miss Allen replaces Mrs Byrne who leaves us at the end of Term One. Each week I have posed a question with the boys, with the first correct (sometimes more!) response receiving a Mars Bar. This week I pose my question to the whole family and written responses will be received by me next Monday 22 march - no later! The question:- What set of six letters can suffix the openings below, to make three common words? The order of the six letters is constant. E _ _ _ _ _ _ S I _ _ _ _ _ _ F O R _ _ _ _ _ _ My theme for this week has been Respect. I discussed with the boys that you are respectful if you would like to be treated, by treating the property of others with care, being receptive to the advice of elders and by honouring the rules of our school, home and nation. The boys were left with the following affirmation:

Canoeing and bursting the balloon
On the third of March Year 4 went to Camp Weekaway for three days and two nights. We arrived there on two buses. When we got there we ate our recess. Then we were divided into seven groups of twelve. After we got into groups we did some activities called Initiatives. There was a Spiders Web that you had to get through without touching any of the sides. Think it was easy?! You couldn't go through the same hole twice. It was hard. After we did that we did other activities such as swinging on ropes that had tyres on them. Then we had lunch. When we had finished lunch we played games in the gym and played outside games. My favourite activity was canoeing. Canoeing was fun but it was hard controlling the canoe. On Friday we did the Iron Man Competition. Well they called it the Yabbie Man Competition. After that we returned to school on the bus. Jacky Wong 4W Trip to the zooOn Wednesday 2C and 2M went to the Zoo by bus. Once we got there everybody had recess. Then we went around the Zoo. First we saw the lions, 'they smelt!' I said. After the lions we went to see the small cats, we saw more than four cages of them. Next we saw the reptiles. There were snakes, crocodiles and turtles. We saw the frogs and Amphibians. Next there were fire bellied newts, cane toads and tree frogs. Then we saw one platypus. Then we went to the zoo school we got asked questions. I answered two of them. When we got to the classroom we touched a tree frog and a king snake then we had lunch. After lunch we saw the butterfly house and the penguins, the baboons, buffalo, gorilla, zebra and giraffe, kangaroos and birds. Then we went back to school. Anders Huitfeldt On Wednesday 2C and 2M went to the zoo because we are learning about amphibians and reptiles. We got on the bus. When we got there we had morning tea. After that my group and my parent went to section B. When we got to the elephants, no elephants were there. Then we went to the seals, but it was fenced off. After that we went to zoo school. At first we had a look around the room. He had a cocoon that we could sit in. Inside it was a green tree frog in a big cage. Finally we went to an owl cage and he told us about it. Then we went to the cocoon. This time he brought a king snake in. After that we had lunch. Then we went to the lion park. We saw a hyena. We saw some sleeping tigers. After that we went home. It was the best excursion yet! Douglas Plunkett On Wednesday 2C and 2M went to the Zoo. When we got there we had morning tea. When we finished our morning tea we went to see the animals the first animal was the Tamir. After that we went to see more animals. When we finished looking at the animals we had lunch on the brick, when we finished lunch we had a little play. After that we started to walk to see more animals. Then we went back to school. Finally we went home very happy. Anthony Hamawi S.C.J.S.P.A Swap ShopOn the first day of Term 2 the boys are to wear their winter uniform.
