30 July 1999 No. 22From the Head of Junior SchoolLast week, all parents should have received information outlining the Junior School Internet Policy and a form seeking your wishes in regards to the publishing of photographs, names and student work. I encourage parents to carefully consider all options and return the form to the Junior School Office as quickly as possible. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Sampson or Mr Stummer. It is with regret I inform parents that Mr Stummer (Information Technology) will be leaving Scotch on Friday 13 August. Mr Stummer has been successful in obtaining a most challenging position in the field of consultancy with a major international firm and whilst it is sad to see Robert leave, he leaves with every best wish for a successful change in career. Sgt. Mick Ryan and Senior Constable Peter Bracken from the Hawthorn Branch of the Victorian Police Force will be spending time in the Junior School over the next few weeks discussing safety and various other issues with all boys. (I encourage parents to discuss matters raised by the Police and follow them up in your own homes.) A part of these sessions will include the Safety House Program. It is coincidental that last week I received a letter from the Hawthorn Safety House Committee seeking interest from our own parent community, either to become an accredited Safety House, or to assist on an active committee in the local area. I have passed these details on to our Parent Association and should parents be interested in pursing these issues further, please contact Bronwyn Cramond or Susan Hughes via the JSPA Letterbox. Best wishes are extended to Year Four who will present their concert next Thursday. It is to be held in the Junior School Assembly Hall and commences at 2.00pm. All welcome! Congratulations to Healey House, under the guidance of Mr Gary Irvine, for a wonderful Chapel Service on Thursday. The theme of 'Taking the Next Step' was well received and provided food for thought. A hearty "well done" is extended to all boys who contributed to this meaningful service of worship. My theme for this week has been "Faithfulness." Boys were encouraged to: listen to their hearts when their beliefs are tested; only make promises they can keep; make sure their words and actions match; be loyal to family and friends; clear up problems face to face; and, importantly, to "walk your talk". The boys were left with the following passage of scripture... "Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones..." (Luke 16:10) Next week is National Kindness Week. The Chairman and founder of The Kindness Foundation said, "One act of kindness can change a person's day from bad to good, from despair to hope. If a little kindness can do that, a lot of kindness can change the world." During National Kindness Week we are being asked to give from the heart, not the pocket! Kindness will be our theme and focus next week. My thought for this week comes from a bumper sticker....
