From the Head of Junior School

Today we welcomed approximately ninety children from other independent schools as they visited Scotch in order to participate in the first "Day of Excellence."

This activity has been designed to bring like minded children in Years Five and Six from various independent schools together under the banner of learning to work, explore, design, construct, think, contemplate, write and create together.

Ms Bacon coordinated this event which covered topics arising from the Technology, Arts, Mathematics, Science, Philosophy and English areas.

A number of Scotch boys participated at Scotch, whilst others visited Brighton Grammar and Xavier College and were involved in similar activities.

Whilst at the time of writing, the Day of Excellence had not occurred, plans have already commenced for future gatherings.

Next week Mr Gary Irvine (6I Class Teacher) will be on exchange for one week at Pembroke School in South Australia. As a part of this exchange we will welcome Mr Andrew Ward from Pembroke. We look forward to working with Mr Ward and to future exchanges with Pembroke.

Congratulations are extended to Mr Murdoch, the staff and boys of Waller House, who led a wonderful Year Three to Six Chapel service yesterday. (We look forward to P-2 Chapel next week!)

Waller's theme of Forgiveness was presented in a meaningful way and my thoughts for this week are taken directly from the Order of Service.

'When you forgive, you in no way change the past;
But you sure do change the future.'
(Bernard Meltzer)

'Sorry is such a simple word, so why is it so hard to say?'
(Terri Wetterberg)

'He who cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass.'
(George Herbert)

The Bible reminds us of the ultimate confidence that we can have in God's forgiveness....

'..if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise
and do what is right; He will forgive us our sins and purify
us from all our wrongdoing.' (1 John Ch 1 v 9)
