From the Head of Junior School

Congratulations are extended to all boys and staff who were involved in the Junior School Concert last Tuesday evening. Years Four to Six presented a variety of items involving the various major and ensemble performance groups.

Special congratulations are extended to Alexander Gin, 1999 Music Captain, on his stunning solo performance on the Cello, something which will be remembered for sometime to come.

Thanks are extended to Miss Allen and Mrs Piggin for their organisation of the concert and to the Senior School instrumental staff, who continually work so hard with the boys of our Junior School.

Next week, boys learning instruments have the opportunity to perform individually in the recital programme and I wish all boys well for their big moment!

It is a thrill to see how 'alive' our music programme is!

Next Monday, Year Six will be presenting their own 'World Expo' during the afternoon and I wish the boys and staff well for a wonderful afternoon. Invitations have been extended to Year Six families to join us for this afternoon.

This week we have had four unfortunate incidents where parents' cars have been broken into and items stolen. Car windows were smashed and items removed whilst the parent was collecting a boy from within the grounds.

I urge parents not to leave valuables in sight when leaving vehicles and encourage everyone to be more vigilant at drop off and collection times. Hawthorn Police have indicated to us that, when possible, they will have a greater presence in the area over the next couple of weeks.

Parents who may have observed suspicious behaviour throughout the week should report it directly to the Hawthorn Police.

Our theme for this week has been 'Giving Thanks'.

Boys were reminded how easy it is to forget two simple words that can mean so much to others. Those two words? "Thank you." Boys were encouraged to remember these two words and also to give thanks to God, for the many blessings He heaps on us every day.

My thought for the week comes from the Chaplain, Reverend Bradbeer, who stated in his words to us at Chapel, that....

'A person wrapped up in themselves is a very small parcel.'

Reverend Bradbeer reminded us all that we need to reach out, thinking more about others and a little less of ourselves in order to show them that we care. The words 'thank you' are a very important part of this process.

The Giving Tree

In recent years, it has become tradition for the boys in the Junior School to bring along non-perishable food and/or new (unwrapped) presents for children less privileged than themselves. The tradition will continue this year. All the presents and food will be donated to Anglicare, Victoria. They will support disadvantaged families and foster children, so that they too may enjoy the sharing of presents and a family Christmas.

All donations need to be at school by Friday 3 December because a representative from Anglicare will speak to the boys at Assembly that day and take the gifts away for distribution to needy families. We look forward, once again, to your generous support.
