Guy Mason

From Head of the Junior School

Welcome back to Year Five who have enjoyed the last four days at their annual camp at Kangaroobie. With hot conditions most days, boys enjoyed a variety of adventure and farm activities that kept them very busy indeed. Again, I thank the Year Five and specialist staff who attended, for giving of their own time and effort in ensuring the camp was successful.

After fielding many comments from parents about the conditions in Callantina Road at pick up and drop off times and having spoken directly to many 'illegal parkers', I have again been in touch with the City of Boroondara, who reassure me their Traffic Officers will be blitzing the area over the coming weeks. It is not my wish for parents/carers to be booked, but it is my wish to ensure the safety of the boys. I am always amazed at how smoothly the traffic flows when the Officers are present. I hope their presence will encourage motorists to follow the regulations in place, in order to ensure the safety of every boy, not just that of their own son/s.

Congratulations are extended to Campbell Ferguson (6P) who competed in the Victorian Surf Life Saving Little Nipper titles at Torquay on 1 and 2 March. Campbell received gold, silver and bronze medals for the wade, beach and Cameron relays. Well done Campbell.

As this has been a shortened week, we have had no theme running. I do however, leave you with the following as my thought for the week….

I am only one,
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something,
And because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

Student Enrichment Programs

The Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children (VAGTC) are offering a range of student and family activities during the year. You do not need to be a member to attend any of the activities.

Also The Gifted Education Research, Resource and Information Centre (GERRIC) is offering a weekend information course for parents about 'Your Gifted Child'. Venue: University of NSW, Kensington Campus. The same organization is also hosting The Australian Primary Talent Search for Year 4 - 6 gifted children.

If you are interested in your child or family attending any VAGTC activities, please call in at my office to pick up a flyer explaining activities, dates, times and cost. If you are interested in attending the parent information course or would like more information about The Australian Primary Talent Search, please see me ASAP.

Please note that I am neither, promoting or recommending these programs, just merely passing on the information to interested parents.
