The boys wear full school uniform for the first time and begin to take increased responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. A range of inter-house sport competitions will take place throughout the year, with a strong focus on participation, encouragement and the development of team skills. Term 1 – Rapid Fire Cricket Term 2 – Football Term 3 – Soccer Term 4 – T-Ball Other inter-house activities include public speaking, trivial pursuit, cross-country, chess and Swimming Sports. The boys will be given the opportunity to continue to develop their ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) skills through the use of the school intranet. Each boy has their own password to access this system (both from school and home) and from Term 2 onwards will use this system to access details of their homework requirements. The boys are given many fantastic opportunities to participate in a range of musical activities throughout the year, including the Year 3 Concert (Thursday 3 June) and the Christmas Service (Tuesday 6 December). A highlight of the year for many of the boys is their first camp! The Year 3 boys participate in a two day camp at the school property at Cowes, on (Thursday 10 and Friday 11 November). Camp is a fantastic opportunity for the boys to relax and enjoy and enjoy spending time outdoors together. |
| The term starts with a unit on Marvellous Melbourne. This unit provides the boys with an opportunity to explore geographical, cultural and historical features of the city we live - Melbourne, and also the state of Victoria. The unit focuses on a familiarization of Melbourne, identifying local landmarks, mapping skills and the differing values of the people who reside in Melbourne. On Thursday 13 October the boys will have an all day excursion to the city of Melbourne looking at a variety of land marks. Following this unit the boys will be undertaking a minor unit on Australian birds. During this unit the boys will be focussing on the unique characteristics and migration patterns of a number of Australian birds. As part of this mini-unit of study we will also be having a guest speaker from Birds Australia who will be talking to the boys about the bird life on Phillip Island. This will be held on Tuesday 8 November. During week five, the Year 3’s will be participating in a two day camp from 10 to 11 November. This camp is held at Scotch’s property at Cowes. Whilst on camp the boys will play beach games, participate in beach walks, sandcastle building, a night walk, star gazing and shell fossicking. They will interact together as a year level, set up camp and enjoy the experience of being in a different environment. We will attend a session with a Park Ranger from the Phillip Island nature parks and will also attend the Penguin Parade in the evening. | |
