Friday 3rd October
Saturday 4th October
In recent years we have introduced a series of holiday lectures and workshops for VCE English exam revision called “Scotch English Excel – VCE Holiday Workshops”. The lectures and workshops are all held here at Scotch over two days at the end of the upcoming September holidays on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October. We only present on a selection of texts, the writing task and our context study (Identity & Belonging) which, while being particularly useful for Scotch boys, may be of interest to students from other schools as well. They are “open to the public.” If you wish to attend, all you have to do is complete the booking sheet and send it along with payment to the address as indicated. The deadline for booking is Friday 12th September 2008.
Lecturers will present select specialist content and theory relating to the relevant text. This will include information on areas such as themes, characters and language. A handout will be given but students will be expected to also take their own notes.
The Workshops will feed off the lectures allowing staff to work with small groups and provide for more individual tuition on the relevant text. These will be practical writing sessions with time provided for the consideration of individual questions. The focus will be on working through sample VCE exam questions, planning answers and offering practical writing tips.
