The objective of the Cardinal Club is to develop the interest and activity of Old Scotch Collegians’ Association and members of the Scotch Family in rowing associated with Scotch College.
The Club’s activities cover the broad categories of fundraising, social events, active participation and support.
Rowers Breakfasts: Parents participate on a morning roster to supply breakfasts for training crews before school classes.
Fundraising: Funds raised are directed towards supplementary equipment purchases to support the School’s major capital expenditure eg. sculls, scull racks, oars, coaching punts, fitness equipment and etc.
Merchandise: Merchandise is available for sale. Including boys training tops, caps, supporters clothes and silver oars.
Head of the Yarra Barbecue: The commencement of each rowing season is launched in Term 4 on the day of the annual Head of the Yarra event for eights. A breakfast is provided for all attendees and the Scotch eights row past the School boat landing, before going to town to wait for the start of the Head of the Yarra race. All are invited to stay and watch the race past Scotch and have a barbecue.
Cardinal Cocktails: The Cardinal Cocktails is usually held in a private home and is open to all Scotch supporters
MacMillan Luncheon: Held during Head of the River week in the Boykett Room and attracts many parents and former rowers.
Scotch Mercantile Regatta: Held two weeks before the head of the river it is the seeding regatta for the Head of the River, and is organised by Scotch and Mercantile boat clubs.
Weekly Regattas: The Cardinal Club provides a tent for parents and spectators at the regattas Year 9s at Carrum Downs course and Years 10 to 12 usually at Nagambie.
Head of the River: The Cardinal Club provide a large tent and chairs at Nagambie for the APS Head of the River, the club then presents each Scotch Crew at the end of the day for photo opportunities and presents medals for the winning crews.
Presentation Night: The Cardinal Club presents each senior rower with a participation medal at this night which the school hosts.
Sunday Rowers Program: Members of The Cardinal Club are able to take advantage of the School’s rowing facilities on Sunday mornings (8.30 am). Novices to experienced oarsmen and women are invited. The Sunday Rowers enjoy social rowing and competition in Masters events as the Cardinal Rowing Club which is affiliated with Rowing VictoriaOverview of the Sport

Boys can start rowing in Term 4 of Year 8. Regattas are held throughout the season, which begins with the Head of the Yarra and culminates with the Head of the River held at Nagambie.
Tours: Boys have competed in the National Championships and at the Henley Regatta in London. The Club has strongly supported these tours.
Support From The River bank: If members are unable to participate in the activities outlined above, the boys always appreciate support on the riverbank and at various regattas at Carrum, Geelong (Barwon River) and Nagambie where the Head of the River is held. Help with the morning breakfasts is appreciated and is well organised with a roster system.
