Auckland Grammar plays at Scotch

v. Auckland Grammarv. Auckland Grammar

A touring side of 18 boys from Auckland Grammar put our First Hockey squad through their paces on Tuesday 18th April. The boys ranged from 15 to 18 years old and were conducting a tour of Melbourne with games against Scotch, Brighton Grammar, Trinity Grammar, and Camberwell Grammar. Prior to arriving, they had practiced against the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team and although losing 5-0, had sharpened their skills.

Scotch, who were still finalising their line up, were coached by John Fedderson and Dylan Best and managed by John Flynn - all who have been working hard developing this side. Auckland won 7-1. The Scotch defence was under extreme pressure for most of the game with some tremendous skill shown by the Auckland centre and forwards. Alistair Gurney goaled for Scotch and Tom Sinclair was named most valuable player by the Auckland Captain.

The Auckland boys were great ambassadors for their school and the Scotch families who billeted enjoyed the experience.
