Welcome to Hockey 2008

With the 2008 competition season fast approaching, welcome to all new players and parents whose boys are starting their hockey career at Scotch, and of course, welcome back to those many families returning to experience another enjoyable and exciting season.

The Montgomery Club exists to support, promote and raise the profile of hockey at Scotch. It works to provide a forum for, and to organise functions to bring together, all the Scotch hockey community in order to contribute to the support and growth of the sport at Scotch. Success in achieving these aims of course relies on the active participation and contribution of ideas from parents and supporters of the boys. Please help by getting involved with the Club through attending our major events – Welcome BBQ Breakfast; Film Night and Awards Night – and contributing to the Club’s planning. All interested supporters are welcome at our Committee Meetings which are held about five times during the year. All these events will be advertised in the Torch as the season progresses.

So come along, make some new friends in the hockey community and help grow the momentum for our players. If you would like to get some more information about what is involved, contact Kevin Barrell on 98853024. But above all, take some time out of that busy schedule and get down to the Junior School or Montgomery pitch, have a tea or coffee with other parents on a Saturday morning and enjoy the efforts of your son and his mates.

Kevin Barrell
President 2008

Aims of the Montgomery Club

The Montgomery Club was formed in 2005 to support Hockey at Scotch College. The Club’s name recognises Bob Montgomery who in 1922 donated funds to convert horse-grazing land into a grass hockey pitch, the Montgomery Sports Field.

The Club aims:
  • To support, promote and raise the profile of hockey at Scotch;
  • To support the administration and coaching staff of hockey at Scotch;
  • To encourage all members of hockey teams to achieve there full potential both individually and collectively;
  • To provide a forum for, and to organize functions to bring together, all of the Scotch hockey community;
  • To raise money for the above objects and purposes by such methods as the Club thinks fit.
