Successful Teenage Gatherings

If your teenager is attending a party

Parents should telephone the host parent regarding:

• whether parents will be present at all times
• precise start and finish times
• whether alcohol is to be served
• transport arrangements
• their contact phone number for the duration of the party

Discuss with your teenager how he or she can manage party pressures and potential problems.

Advise your teenager against joining carloads of young people.

If collecting your teenager pre-arrange a pick-up time. Be confident about maintaining this arrangement and follow through with the consequences if he or she does not co-operate (eg embarrass your teenager by personally collecting him or her at the door).
