About the Foundation

Established in 1973, the Scotch College Foundation is the organisation through which financial support for the College is directed. Its broad objective is to anticipate and provide for the funding needs of Scotch College over and above what is provided by school fees and government grants. Support is given through donations and gifts directed to the College through any of the Foundation's fundraising programs.

The Funds

1. The Scotch College Building and Library Funds

Gifts to these funds are tax deductible and provide revenue for major capital works and libraries and library services of the College.

Building Projects Supported by the Foundation

  • Senior School Science Centre
  • Glenn Centre for Physical Education
  • Keon Cohen Building
  • Junior School Redevelopment
  • Lithgow Centre including the Staff Centre
  • Cardinal Pavilion (together with the OSCA and Cardinal Club)
  • Language and Culture Centre
  • Randall Building
  • James Forbes Academy

2. Foundation Endowments

Gifts to the Scotch College Foundation Scholarship Fund are tax deductible.

The various Foundation endowment funds have six major objectives -

  • help minimise school fee increases
  • provide a significant number and variety of scholarships
  • assist needy families whose sons are already attending the school
  • provide salary support and other incentives to attract and retain the best possible staff
  • enhance the educational environment of the School in ways which offer the widest range of opportunities to the greatest possible number of students

Educational Projects Supported by the Foundation

  • Grants to music, art and drama
  • Funding for various educational Fellowships
  • Initial funding of the salary of the Director of Language and Culture Centre
  • Funding of a variety of scholarships and other student financial aid
  • Enhancement of staff salaries
  • Establishment of the McLennan Chair of Design and Technology

2. Annual Giving Program

This program provides an opportunity for the Scotch Family to make an annual gift to any of the Foundation or School funds of an amount with which they feel comfortable at the time. There is no ongoing commitment.

3. Bequests. The Alexander Morrison Circle

Bequests are the most effective way of providing benefits for future generations of Scotch Collegians. Bequests may be a share of an estate, cash, items of personal property or real estate. Anyone who commits to leaving a bequest to the College becomes a member of the Alexander Morrison Circle.

The Alexander Morrison Circle is named after the second Principal of Scotch College, 1857-1903. He was instrumental in building the School into the leading educational institution that it is today. The Circle has the purpose of encouraging members of the Scotch Family to make a bequest or future gift to the school and to give recognition to those who have already made this generous commitment.

Over the years, Scotch has been the grateful recipient of many unexpected bequests. We would like to be able to acknowledge and thank the people who confirm a bequest in their lifetime and give them the recognition they deserve. This will be done through the Alexander Morrison Circle.
