Australian Science Olympiad medallists (L–R): Matthew Ng, Perry Reiter and Navin Ranasinghe |
Perry Reiter (Year 9), Matthew Ng (Year 11) and Navin Ranasinghe (Year 11) achieved great success in the 2005 Australian Science Olympiad.
Perry won gold medals in biology and chemistry, Navin won a silver medal in physics, and Matthew won two bronze medals – in chemistry and physics. These boys were selected to take part in the competition’s next stage: to select Australia’s Science Olympiad representatives. Unfortunately the boys were not chosen as Australia’s representatives, but the experience of participating in the national selection process was invaluable as part of their overall science education.
In the Science Olympiad’s national qualifying exams, Scotch students sitting for biology 1 achieved one high distinction; students sitting chemistry gained eight high distinctions, seven distinctions and one credit; and students sitting physics achieved six high distinctions, six distinctions, one credit and one participation award.
The aim of the Science Olympiad is to improve the quality of science education, increase student interest in science, and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers.
Congratulations to all the Scotch boys who participated in the Olympiad.
