The earliest record of the Senior School Swap Shop is an advertisement in a Great Scot edition of 1981 which asks for clothing in good wearable condition. Twenty-five years ago the Swap Shop was run by the Scout Auxiliary once a term in the main quad whereas today it is an auxiliary headed up by Angie Perry with about 70 volunteer helpers, housed at 7A Morrison Street and open for business every Wednesday morning. This highly efficient and well-organised institution provides invaluable help for all those looking for Scotch clothing, and over many years has made generous contributions to a number of areas of the School.
The Senior School Swap Shop has become the newest member of the Scotch College Foundation in 2006 by its offer of support to the Indigenous Students Program. In previous years the Swap Shop has assisted by providing uniforms and other clothing for our indigenous students, but having been inspired by the article in the last edition of Great Scot, they felt they would like to do more. Their generous financial support for the program will help provide valuable assistance to the boys for their travel, books and other expenses which occur during the year. Such support indicates the growing acceptance and understanding of how much our indigenous students bring to the boys of Scotch and their families.
The Foundation thanks all those who work with the Senior School Swap Shop and all those who utilise its facilities. This is an excellent example of the philanthropy which is becoming such a feature of the Scotch Family as we give back to communities less fortunate than ourselves.
