The Old Scotch Scuba Club is enjoying an adventurous summer, with single day dives, weekends away and a Wilson’s Promontory dive camp planned. We are holding introductory dives in the Scotch College pool and running an open-water dive course.
For a first-hand report on just what the club actually does, I asked a member of the club, Nick Brooks (’95), to provide a brief reflection on his experiences since I first introduced him to the club four years ago. This is what Nick said:
‘Several years ago a school mate rang me up to see if I would join him for a dive in the School pool. Always being told asthma would stop me from participating, I was unsure, but with the scuba club’s safety standards it was an excellent trial arena.
‘Since then, after many Old Scotch Scuba Club–organised training courses, I have dived around the world, on wrecks, coral reefs, in caves and in several open-water sites. I’ve chased crayfish, eaten scallops an hour after catching them, and seen places most people will never experience.
‘Over the last few years, diving during the day has been interesting, although I now find at night the adventure is completely different. ‘
