Athletics Back In Full Swing

The summer track and field season for Old Scotch Athletic Club kicked off on Family Day with the running of the annual Ewen Macdonald 800m handicap. The event was won this year by our track captain, Andrew Hennessey, who being off a mark of 140m, found an amazing second wind down the final straight to hold off James Cathie and Sam Curry. The highly fancied specialist 800m runners, such as Bill Feutrill and Chris Taylor (previous 3-time winner) did not as expected work their way through the field in the second lap, leaving the first few places up for grabs and the handicappers scratching their heads.

From November to March the athletics club is competing in the Athletics Victoria Eastern Region competition, with our home venue being at Hagenauers Reserve, Elgar Road, Box Hill. This year we have a strong junior team with many current schoolboys competing, such as Nick Burgess, Jake Sofo, Brenton Morley, James McIlraith, Tim Ranson, Chris Baker and Will Vigors. With such a strong contingent, there is every chance of the Under 18 team reaching the finals. The Club would welcome any new faces, whether you are a sprinter or distance runner or field athlete.
