Motivation for budding film-makers

Aspiring film-makers among Scotch’s Year 12 Media students were highly impressed by the efforts of their peers during a visit to Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) at Federation Square.

They visited ACMI to see Top Screen, a program of 14 short films and animations, including a work by Scotch Class of 2005 student, Jonathan Green. Top Screen profiles the state’s best screen-based art and moving image works created by Year 12 VCE students from around Victoria.

Part of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s Season of Excellence, Top Screen allows students, their families, schools and the general community to celebrate the talents and achievements of young filmmakers.

Jonathan Green’s eight-minute documentary, The Block, was a well researched and carefully constructed program which examined the proposed redevelopment of ‘The Block’, an Aboriginal housing development and community in Redfern, Sydney.

The Scotch VCE Media students who saw the documentary, made by a fellow Scotch student, were certainly challenged and motivated to produce work that might be worthy of screening at Top Screen in 2007.
