Old Boy rowers share that winning feeling

Old Boy Rowers

John de Ravin and Robert Njoku (Year 12)

Following the historic win at the Head of the River, the Scotch College Foundation invited a very special group of eight Old Boys to School Assembly on the morning of Monday 10 April – two days after the triumphant day at Nagambie. All had rowed for the First Crew during the 1940s, and all were thrilled and delighted to be a part of the School’s celebration.

Noticing that a member of the winning crew, Robert Njoku, did not yet have First Crew colours on his blazer pocket, John de Ravin (’48) immediately decided to make Robert a gift of the pocket. The pocket was ordered and fixed, and John was very pleased to come back again to School and chat with Robert about their common love of rowing, and the exploits of the ’48 and ’06 crews.

Special guests at the assembly were Jim Shaw (’41), Sir Laurence Muir (’42), Ken Walton (’45), John Galbraith (’46), Bill Philip (’47), Ian Munro (’48), John de Ravin (’48) and Richard Oliver (’49).
