Con the Fruiterer
The Highlight of the Class of 2007 Valedictory Dinner was a hilarious address by Con the Fruiterer (aka Mark Mitchell), who proved that the show must go on, despite a fire alarm which caused an evacuation of the Melbourne Park Function Centre right in the middle of his act.
Con was inconsolable upon learning that he had missed out on becoming the ninth Principal of Scotch College, and only the evacuation of the entire function room could interrupt him!
Despite this slight glitch, the dinner – held on Monday 22 October – was once again a resounding success, with 700 people attending. The Valedictory year group was fondly farewelled, after the successes of the year had been celebrated enthusiastically.
Year 12 coordinator Neil Cracknell received a wonderful ovation in recognition of his support of the class of 2007, and his 36 years of service to Scotch. Dr Donaldson was also warmly acknowledged as he thanked the parents and students of the Class of 2007 in his final year as Principal.
The latter part of the evening saw the dance floor full, with Year 12 boys and their proud mothers celebrating the wonderful transition that was occurring. GS
