‘Second Childhood’ knocks ‘em in the aisles

Words: OPHELIA HOPKINS DIRECTOR Ophelia Hopkins

During September a cast of 33 Year 7 and 8 students from Presbyterian Ladies’ College and Scotch performed ‘Second Childhood’ by Glenn Perry, an adaptation of Morris Gleitzman’s novel.

In this production we wanted to create a fast-paced, cartoon-style suburbia and the young cast rose to the challenge of performing in this whacky world with energy and talent. It was a joy to watch their performances develop throughout the process, and I would like to thank them once again for their efforts.

Bringing this world to life demanded a high level of support and I would also like to thank the staff involved for their time and commitment. The cast was well-supported by a great crew, some of whom were backstage for the first time. Our new stage managers, Lachlan Baird (Year 11), Peter Green (Year 9) and Tom Jarman (Year 8) coordinated the show well, and were supported by our crew mentors Lachlan Bell (Year 10), Daniel Bailey (Year 10), Tom Otter (Year 11) and William Lawson (Year 11). These boys shared their knowledge and experience with the young crew, and helped to create an excellent team environment during the production.

The performances were a success, and we hope that the cast and crew have many fond memories of the process. I would also like to thank parents and friends of both the cast and crew for their support.

We look forward to seeing these students continue to develop their theatrical skills with us over coming years. GS
