Words: Lt Colonel (Aac) P A Glover • Commanding Officer, Scotch College Army Cadet Unit
A major highlight of the Scotch College Army Cadet Unit’s annual promotions courses last December was a visit by the 4th/19th Prince of Wales Field Regiment, who displayed some of their current operational machinery and equipment for the 140 or so Scotch cadets to inspect.
The cadet unit conducts its annual promotions courses at the end of each year, to prepare the leaders of the future adequately for their positions of responsibility. The courses are demanding, and through appropriate challenges suitably prepare the boys for the year ahead.
The visiting 4th/19th Prince of Wales Field Regiment (including Private Gohkan Askut, also a member of the School’s Maintenance team) was led by their Commanding Officer, Lt Colonel Ian Upjohn. The regiment’s display included an armoured personnel carrier, a field combat medical supply unit housed in a six-wheel drive Land Rover, a Unimog (a large equipment-carrying truck) and a collection of weapons, including F88 Steyrs and an F89 machine gun. The Scotch cadets and officers thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the display.
On behalf of the Cadet Unit, special thanks to Lt Colonel Upjohn and his staff for making the effort to bring out his personnel and the display. It was well worth it.
