Cultural Walking

Words: Norman McLeod

Blue skies, sparkling seas and a raging headwind greeted the 32 Old Scotch bushwalkers who arrived for an ‘urban/beach/cultural’ walk along the Bayside Coastal Art Trail, which runs through Brighton, Sandringham and Beaumaris.

The trail celebrates the lives and artwork of notable Australian artists who painted along the Port Phillip Bay coast in years past. Trail signboards are located as close as possible to where the artist stood to paint or draw.

After stopping frequently to view the signboards, and for lunch near the Black Rock Yacht Club, the walkers wound up the 15km walk with refreshments at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club. Most salubrious!
