Winter has brought mixed results for the Old Scotch Athletics Club, with the team coming third in the Jamieson, held at Scotch in April, and fourth in the Dyson relay at the Tan.
Robert Schwerkolt, Peter Simm (’93), Adrian Wallis, James Atkinson (’83) and Darcy Long (’05) continue to be the stand-out athletes for Old Scotch. Current schoolboys Will Vigors and Chris Baker also played a crucial role at the Jamieson.
Two Old Scotch athletes are currently pursuing promising athletic careers in the United States. Nick Miller (’02) is studying Law at Georgia State University. He has unfortunately battled injuries for the past 18 months and has only just begun competing again.
Andrew Krumins (’02), who briefly held the number-one ranking in Australia for the 800m last year, is studying Sports Management at Florida State University. Andrew is thoroughly enjoying training with some of the best middle-distance runners in the world, with the aim of qualifying for the 2008 Olympics. We wish Andrew and Nick all the very best in their endeavours.
Two current Old Scotch athletes achieved great individual success over the last year. Peter Simm claimed the APSOC male athlete of the year award for the second time. Antony Rickards was crowned the Victorian Marathon Champion after his performance in the 2006 Melbourne Marathon.
The Old Scotch Athletics Club is open to runners of all standards. Please contact Mark Purvis on 0407 526 622 or Nick Wallace-Smith on 0438 925 591. GS
