After 60 years, the School’s Pipes and Drums Band has finally found somewhere to call home after members’ school days are over.
A keen group of approximately 30 ex-pipers and ex-drummers have all indicated their interest in joining together to form OSCA Pipes and Drums, as a section of the Old Scotch Music Club.
A number of unsuccessful attempts have been made over the years to establish apipes and drums band. This time things turned out differently, and logistical tasks have already begun such as sourcing band outfits, auditing the equipment various members already have, and providing updated information to members about how the world of piping has changed since they last played.
The band’s aims include providing teaching and tuning, forming a competition band – and most of all having some good fun.
An organising committee has been appointed, building on the joint initiative of Andrew Scott (’69), Jonathan Quay (’98) and Wes Cronin (’04). Two or three Sunday gatherings at Scotch have already been held, and many more are planned.
Anyone interested in joining the band – regardless of playing ability – is welcome to contact Andrew Scott on 9843 2165 or ascott@mooreslegal.com.au GS
