Year 7s and 8s from Scotch and PLC took a creative leap into the world of Narnia.
WORDS: Ms OPHELIA HOPKINS • DIRECTOR
During September a cast of 34 Year 7 and 8 students from Scotch and Presbyterian Ladies’ College performed The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by Joseph Robinette, an adaptation of C S Lewis’s classic novel.
Some view this text as a Christian parable, others as simply a wonderful adventure story. Our journey into Narnia led us to create a more contemporary, magical world where Edmund (played by Oliver Griffin-Danby), Lucy (played by Maddi Moore), Peter (played by Jack Tivey) and Susan (played by Siobhan Lane) learn about hope, loyalty and responsible leadership.
The cast created some wonderful and detailed characters – from fauns to ogres – and it was a joy working with them. They rose to the challenge of creating such an exciting and magical world on stage, and they should be very proud of their work.
Technically, this was a difficult world to create, and I would like to thank our crew for all of their efforts creating it. In particular, our crew mentors (Lachlan Bell, Peter Green, Nick Caldwell, Andrew Elder, James Smith, Matthew Douglas and Lachlan McLaren) played an important role in training younger students and supporting the production process.
The performances were a success, and we hope the cast and crew have many fond memories of the process. I would like to thank all of the staff, students, parents and friends who gave their time and creativity to this production so generously.
We look forward to seeing these students continue to develop their theatrical skills with us over the coming years. GS
