A busy athletics season
WORDS: Mr BARRY PRICE (DIRECTOR OF SPORT)
and Seb Woodard
The athletics season this year has been a very busy one for Scotch. We competed in the All Schools Knockout Competition, reaching the national finals with our senior team. We also competed in the All Schools State Relay Championships and were very successful, with our boys being awarded one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
In the annual APS Athletics Competition we faced some stiff competition but our boys performed extremely well, with 18 personal best times being achieved on the day. The boys came a creditable sixth, and are to be congratulated on their efforts throughout the season. St Kevin’s College won the sports to repeat their 2007 success.
Seb Woodard, gold medal winner in the under 17 800m and 4 x 400m, provided this report:
It was a hot day, 30 degrees and a bit of wind, location Olympic Park. St Kevin’s won the competition with Melbourne Grammar second and Scotch in sixth position. There was a buzz in the stadium, with the abundance of St Kevin’s supporters and support for the other schools.
However, unfortunately, once again there was not much of a turnout for the Scotch cheer crowd. It would be fantastic to get more support at the APS athletics next year: the extra spirit and cheer really does help when you’re competing. When you know that you’ve got that Scotch Collegian support and spirit behind you, it truly does lift the performance out on the track. GS
