Words: Mr Tim Ward
The Old Scotch Soccer Club had to hit the ground running with an earlier than usual start to our pre-season, thanks to an invitation from Croydon City to play in their annual cup competition.
As the lowest-ranked club to take part in the competition OSSC fared very well and managed to top the seniors’ group with two draws and a win from their three games, only to lose 2-0 in the final to State League division two side Dandenong United. The reserves didn’t fare quite so well, picking up two draws in four matches, but the signs were very positive, as many thirds players stepped up and performed very well.
Thanks to the ongoing dry conditions, formerly referred to as a drought, H A Smith Reserve isn’t looking quite the treat it was back in August 2008. All the boys have been asked to perform their usual nightly rain dance before turning in.
Off-field events include the annual open day at Toorak Bowls Club in March and the F A Cup night late May.
