Words: Mr Tim Shearer
Scotch’s Director of Music, John Ferguson, received the ‘best musical director’ award at the Victorian Theatre Guild Awards last November. The award recognised John’s outstanding contribution as music director of OSCA’s production of Les Misérables in October.
The production as a whole, and the music specifically, were widely acclaimed. In fact, Les Misérables received seven Theatre Guild nominations, with John’s nomination proving ultimately successful. Stewart McGhee won a judges’ award for his performance as Marius.
Prior to Les Misérables, John has directed a number of professional and amateur productions, and was a conductor for the Victorian College of the Arts’ opera studio for four years. GS
