Edward Cliff (11 LN) won a scholarship to attend the 2009 Professor Harry Messel International Science School (ISS) in Sydney from 12–25 July 2009.
The ISS encourages students to pursue careers in science and related areas. Each year, 140 Year 11 and 12 students are selected according to academic merit to attend the ISS. Scholars come from all over Australia, China, Japan, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, the UK and the USA.
The theme in 2009 was Genes to Galaxies. For two weeks, ISS scholars lived on campus and participated in a range of activities including diverse lectures by top scientists, hands-on scientific workshops and an active social program. Speakers included Chief Justice of the High Court Robert French, who studied both science and law, and Wayne Lee, NASA’s Mars Mission Controller for the Rover Lander.
