Matthew Pierri, co-Dux of the School in 2008, presented a cheque for $13,000 to Mrs Carol Northmore, Manager of the Victorian Spinal Cord Service at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Hospital. Matt, who was injured in a football accident in 2007, was the driving force behind raising the funds last year
Matthew Pierri presents Carol Northmore with the School’s donation to the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre
During the presentation at Scotch in May, Mrs Northmore spoke eloquently about the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Hospital and how valuable the funds would be in improving its facilities and contributing to the wellbeing of its patients. It was a most moving presentation as we listened to the ongoing needs of patients and how staff work tirelessly to rebuild lives after injury or illness.
Matt also spoke to the boys and staff about the necessity for finding one’s own pathway in life, regardless of what life dishes up. It was a profound experience to hear him reflect on his own journey from being injured in a football accident to being fully involved in his first year of university at The University of Melbourne. Matt was clearly thriving in his new role as a university student, and it was a privilege to welcome him back to Scotch. GS
