WORDS: MICHAEL YANG (Year 12) – CAPTAIN OF MUSIC
Excitement was in the air on the night of 29 April, as hundreds of students flocked to the Battle of the Bands, jointly staged by Scotch College and Presbyterian Ladies’ College.
This charity event provided an excellent opportunity to showcase several rock bands from both schools, which performed their 15 minute sets to friends and the school community while supporting the Oaktree Foundation and Neno Girls’ School in Malawi, Africa.
The concert was a tremendous success, with excellent performances ranging from a bright, catchy rendition of ‘Sly’ by Cat Empire, featuring a full brass section, to the loud, fast-paced ‘Kryptonite’, by 3 Doors Down. Other activities, including a guest performance from Bullets in Berlin, a highly amusing air guitar competition and a final encore performance from the winning band – Scotch’s very own Negative Feedback – added to the fun-filled night.
With any luck, the Battle of the Bands may become an annual event in the Scotch-PLC calendar for years to come! GS
