Jack North & Angus Hamilton
Angus Hamilton (Captain) and Jack North (both Year 12) represented Victoria in the under 18 state rugby union team in the division 2 Australian Rugby Schools Championships held in Geelong. The championships included state and territory teams from South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, and a national aboriginal side. Victoria won the final against Western Australia (17–12) to retain the Charles Blunt Cup.
A combined states team which included players from the above six teams was selected to compete in the national division 1 championships at Knox Grammar in Sydney against two state teams from New South Wales and Queensland as well as one team from the ACT. Jack North and Angus Hamilton were selected in the team, with Angus being named captain.
For the first time in the history of the Division 1 championships, the combined states made the grand final with wins over NSW’s number one team (20–15) and Queensland 2 (17–15). The combined states lost to Queensland 1 in the final (41–17) and the team was presented with the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Trophy for runner–up.
After the division 1 championships finished, Australian selectors announced the Australian schoolboys’ team chosen to represent Australia against international sides. Angus Hamilton was selected in this team to play against Tonga (26 September 2009) and New Zealand (9 October 2009). After these matches, final selections will be made to represent Australia in the Ireland/United Kingdom tour (9 November to 22 December 2009) to play against Ireland, Wales, and England. GS
Angus Hamilton (Year 12) has just been selected for the Australian schoolboy rugby team after being selected for the combined states schoolboy team with Jack North (also Year 12).
