Congratulations to the following Old Scotch Collegians and Scotch Family members who received Queen’s Birthday honours in 2009. Queen’s Birthday awards are made to people who have served their profession, their community or their country with distinction – and without the thought that one day they might receive this kind of recognition for their efforts.
The Scotch Family is proud that these members of the school community have been recognised for their exemplary service.
David (’61) who is Chairman of the Scotch College Council, received his award for service to business as a director of public companies, to sport, particularly through the review and restructure of national sporting bodies, and to the community through contributions to arts and educational organisations. (See report on page 7.)
Thelma, who is the wife of Norman (’41) and mother of Robert (’71), Barry (’74) and Phillip (’76) received her award for service to people with disabilities through the Onemda Association.
Shirley, who is the wife of Gilbert (’46) and mother of Hamish (’80) and William (’90) received her award for service to youth through the Guiding and Scouting movements, and to the community.
Alan (’73) received his award for outstanding public service, particularly in providing advice that has helped shape Victoria’s parks and reserves systems. (See report on page 60.)
