The Old Scotch Tennis Club is having an interesting year, playing initially on the Montgomery Courts, briefly on the new Junior School courts, and now on the new ‘blue’ Australian Open–type Harvey Nicholson Courts. The new surface is most popular and is being enjoyed by all.
The club donated trophies for the schoolboys’ competition during summer and also contributes to Scotch for using the courts and facilities.
The club championships were played over two weeks in April/May. Peter Anderson (’74) won the A grade singles with Ian Richardson runner up. Peter Anderson and Bill Duncan won the A grade doubles after a close contest required a play off. Richard Cudlipp and Neil Scott (’54, club captain) won the B grade doubles. There was no B Grade singles competition this year.
We are all looking forward to the club’s 50th anniversary cocktail party to be celebrated on 20 November 2009. Great efforts are underway to ensure invitations are sent to all past players. An early years history of the club is being compiled by our historians.
The club has an increased membership this year and Old Boys and Scotch Family members are welcome to come down on Saturdays at 1pm to have a game. Just roll up! GS
