Scotch champions in the pool and in the surfYou're in the Starter's hands. The gun is raised, and Scotch is poised to pounce on yet another opportunity to strive for success.
March has been extremely successful for Scotch in the water. On Friday 12 March Scotch competed for the first time in the Schools' Surf Lifesaving League at Mordialloc Lifesaving Club. Captained by James Rice and managed by Mrs Heather Lacey, the team performed extremely well in the water events, and held off an onslaught by Wesley College in the beach events, to win the overall competition.
On Wednesday 24 March Scotch was piped into the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, ready to compete in the APS Swimming and Diving Championships. The divers, led by Jim Fowles, were the first in the water, adding a 10 point lead to the overall points by the time they had finished. The sound of the hooter signified the start of the swimming, with Scotch stretching the lead slightly further during the first half of the programme. Haileybury College and Caulfield Grammar pegged Scotch's lead back during the individual events with Scotch again leaping forward to snap the lead away from Caulfield Grammar, during the last 6 relays, to win the night and become the APS Champions for the ninth time in 10 years. On Friday 26 March the Scotch Junior Secondary Swimming Team was out at Carey Grammar competing in their Championship. Once again Scotch successfully swam brilliantly to become the APS Junior Secondary Champions of 1999. On Saturday 27 March Scotch swimmers competed against other Victorian schools and were again victorious. At the time of writing, the Year 5s and 6s will be competing in their APS Championships on Monday 29 March against a battle hardened Melbourne Grammar. Aquatic education at Scotch is very strong, as indicated by the results in the pool, of the diving, in the surf, and of course, with the water polo ball. Mr Rick Berry
