On ANZAC Day, thirty-one members of the Scotch College Military Band joined with War Veterans to march, as part of the Commemoration Parade, in the city centre.
The band, comprising of boys from Year 8 through to Year 12, played two pieces: Semper Fidelis by Souza and The Royal Airforce March Past by Walford, Davies and Dyson, while marching from Collins Street to the Shrine of Remembrance.
Hours of practice, during Thursday afternoon activity sessions, at weekends and during the holidays, ensured a polished performance and the huge crowds lining the streets gave an enthusiastic response to the boys.
The television coverage of the march gave the band considerable exposure with the cameras focused on them for several moments.
Our Drum Major, Nicholas Monk (Year 12), confidently led from the front, for the second year running. Thanks are due to Mr Roger Schmidli and Mr Shane Gillard for their training in musicianship and marching.
We are pleased that so many parents, Old Boys and friends came to support the Military Band on this occasion.
Mr David Brown, MIC Military Band
