At a recent 'Committee 150' meeting, the Chairman, Bruce Lithgow announced that the Foundation had been notified that an anonymous $150,000 donation to the school would be used to establish a Special Scholarship.
This incredibly generous gift will be invested in the Foundation's Endowment Fund for Financial Aid as a 'stand alone' scholarship endowment, and each year a proportion of the investment income will be returned to the capital to maintain its value with the remainder being used to provide means tested scholarships for boys from the country.
The Sesquicentenary Scholarship becomes one of many scholarships set up by the Foundation through the generous support of the Scotch Family members. These include the Martin Schumacher Memorial Scholarship, the OVA Nilsen Scholarship, the Roddick Family Scholarship, the Don Lithgow Scholarship, the Struan Robertson Endowment and the Dorothy Tingate Scholarship.

The development of a significant student financial aid programme is a Foundation priority, and the President, Peter Joyce, is confident the creation of the Sesquicentenary Scholarship will inspire others to add to it as the school approaches its 150th birthday.
A special tie has been designed to celebrate the School's sesquicentenary. These will be presented to students at a special School Assembly on 26 February 2001. Students will then wear these ties throughout the 2001 school year.
The student ties will have a cardinal background. Versions of the tie with a navy background will become the official Old Boys' tie for 2001 and will be worn at least on every Foundation Day thereafter.
They will not replace the existing Old Boys' tie, which after 2001, will continue to be worn on all occasions other than Foundation Day.
