For the first time since Grandparents' Afternoons for grandparents of boys in Year 7 began almost twenty years ago there was standing room only in the Chapel, the gathering point for attendees.
On each of the days over 180 proud grandparents took advantage of beautiful early autumn afternoons to stroll around the grounds with their grandsons, visit various buildings of interest and hear the archivist Dick Briggs talk about aspects of the school's history.
As one grandparent commented to Peter Crook, Director of Development, Grandparents' Afternoons are just another example of the far reaching tentacles of the Scotch Family. This is certainly illustrated by the people in the photograph.
The twins are the sons of Jane and Martin Grimwade; and the grandsons of Ian and Thea Manson, and Joan Grimwade. Ian and Thea's son Andrew attended Scotch (Class of '82). Ian is an Old Boy (Class of '51), and Ian's late father, Don, was at East Melbourne (Class of '25) and one of the founders of the East Melbourne Glen Chapter of Scotch Collegians.
The afternoons concluded with a few comments from Peter Crook about planned developments at the school whilst guests enjoyed scones, jam and cream (cholesterol free someone observed!!)
