First XVIII presentation

The First XVIII Jumper Presentation was held on Wednesday 5 May.

We were delighted to have two very special guests - Western Bulldogs draftee Cameron McKenzie McHarg ('98) and Collingwood coach Tony Shaw.

Cameron gave an insight into the life of a young AFL footballer in 1999 and emphasised the importance of making the most of any chances that life presented. He described the essence of success as a good work ethic.

Tony Shaw elaborated on his personal philosophy of being fully prepared for any situation and the importance of discipline. He described some turning points in his career that allowed him progress from being an U/19 reject to a premiership captain at Collingwood. While ability is important, Tony feels that too many people do not make the most of their natural talents, by not being prepared to take the hard road.

The Scotch College football community is indebted to both Cameron and Tony for their for their outstanding contribution to our 1st XVIII Jumper Presentation. The feedback from the boys and their parents has been fantastic. I believe that all present took away something special from the evening and that the boys of the 1999 First XVIII will be (in the words of Tony Shaw) 'having a dip' this season.

Coming events

The 1858 Club is holding two main fundraising events this year and looks forward to the continuing support of the Scotch family. The first event is the annual 1858 Breakfast to be held in the week before the Cordner Eggleston Cup. This year the breakfast is at the Hotel Sofitel on 29 July. The second event is a Sports Trivia Night on 14 August (venue to be announced).
