The Team of the Season in Cricket for 1999 was the Open Third XI, who won every match they played, usually by a wide margin. Indeed, in all but one of their matches they won by at least six wickets.
The one exception was their first game, against Xavier, which they won by just two wickets, their best batting effort of the season, as they scored more than six an over to pass the 187 scored by a very strong opponent.
At least two Scotch players reached the mandatory retirement score in every match. Outstanding batsmen were Eamonn Best, Luke Kitchen, Jim Hilliard and Nick Reid. Top bowlers in a team which bowled out its opponents for less than sixty on three occasions were Marcus Walkom, Gavin Prendergast and David Logan.
The team was captained by Jim Hilliard and coached by Dr Mark Johnston.
Regulars in the team were: Jim Hilliard (captain), Nick Reid (vice-captain), Rohan Fenton, Eamonn Best, Luke Kitchen, Alex Rowell, Marcus Walkom, Gavin Prendergast, Tom Hare, David Logan, Michael Rattray, Duncan Robertson
