Governor Unveils Commemorative Plaque

Governor John Landy

On Monday 4 June John Landy AC, MBE, Governor of Victoria, arrived at Scotch at 9:30 am.

During a one-hour tour of the College, he visited the Resource Centre, a Year 7 classroom and met students who had been on overseas exchanges or were currently here on exchange.

The features of the Governor's brief tour were the number of students he spoke with, and the barrage of in-depth questions posed by Ms Katrina Stalker's Year 7 class.

During Assembly in the Memorial Hall the Governor recalled his win for Geelong Grammar in the Mile at the 1948 APS Athletics Sports.

In that year the Sports were held on the Main Oval at Scotch, and Manson Russel ('48), the Scotch representative in that race, together with the students and the staff assembled, greatly appreciated John Landy's comments. The Governor then unveiled a Commemorative Plaque to mark the celebration of Scotch's 150 years since its founding.

The plaque will remain highly visible at the northern entrance to the Lithgow Centre, and act as a constant reminder of the sesquicentennial celebrations that have taken place in 2001.

Following Assembly, the Governor had morning tea with two student representatives from each year level.
