1858 Club Breakfast a great success

It was our fourth and arguably most successful function', 1858 Club President, Bruce Armstrong, commented after this year's Cordner-Eggelston Cup Breakfast at the Hotel Sofitel.

Over four hundred and eighty guests were in attendance as Special Guest Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy reflected on the challenges and changes affecting Australian football in the modern era. He commended Scotch and Melbourne Grammar on their contribution to football's history through the inauguration of the Cordner-Eggleston Cup which he likened to the now traditional Collingwood-Essendon Anzac Day match. And he struck a chord with those present through his obvious passion for the game and hopes for its continued growth.

An innovation at this year's breakfast were the interviews by MC Graeme Dawson of the team captains Campbell Brown and James Beaumont. Both boys were excellent ambassadors for their schools.

The 1858 Club has already pledged its continuing support for Scotch football through contributions to the April 2002 Northern Territory Tour, the first eighteen Training Camp and the availability of specialist coach Chris Naish to help at all levels.
