Scotch College

Liz Pratt reflects on Scotch

Twelve and a half years ago I began my appointment at Scotch as a Grade One teacher. I leave with many wonderful and warm memories of the School, the students, the staff and the parents.

I began, as every school year begins, in the beautiful Littlejohn Chapel with the staff of the whole school and I knew then that there was something special about Scotch. During my time at the School I have come to understand that the something special is the strong sense of identity and the belonging that underpins the School's ethos - the tradition, the Christian values, the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff, the support and friendship of the parents and the opportunity to see the boys develop from Preps to Year 12.

I was privileged to be at the School during times of major changes and new developments. For me, I have a special memory of the Piper leading the young Prep boys into the first Prep Unit eight years ago and seeing their pride in the School. I have always enjoyed being part of the anticipation and excitement that each Prep class has at the beginning of a school career at Scotch.

I leave Scotch Junior School deeply appreciative of the opportunities that it provided for me with regard to the rewarding professional experience, the personal friendships, the support of the School and parents, and teaching the boys. I look forward to maintaining contact with the School, colleagues and parents and above all, hearing about the boys' progress in the years ahead.

Mrs Liz Pratt

Mrs Liz Pratt retired from Scotch College on 21 August after nearly thirteen years of distinguished service to the school. She is much loved by all associated with the Junior School and she will be greatly missed.

In 1989 she was appointed Prep Co-ordinator to establish Scotch's first Prep Class. Liz was appointed Director of Junior Primary at the start of 1990 and was responsible for the education of the boys from Prep to Grade Three. She held this position as Prep teacher and administrator until her appointment as Director of Studies in mid 1996.

Liz was Chair of the JSHAA P - 4 Co-ordinators' Group from 1991 - 1992 and Language Co-ordinator at Scotch from 1988 - 1997.

All at Scotch wish Liz and her husband, Graham, a long and happy retirement
