CAT: a dreaded three letter word that Year 12 students have grown to loathe. Term 3 contains an extremely frantic CAT period, combine this with many extra-curricular activities, and you will find some very busy students at Scotch.

The winter sports season is over with many teams achieving outstanding results. Unfortunately, the first XVIII football side couldn't take the APS Premiership, however they were gallant in defeat, especially in an extremely tough and close game against Xavier, only going down by 8 points. Congratulations to the Cross Country team who took out the APS Premiership.

The first XV rugby side had an erratic season which contained a memorable victory over Melbourne Grammar on their Main Oval. The first XI soccer team also suffered a few losses, although their win over St. Peters Adelaide was inspiring. The first XI hockey also completed a reasonably successful season. Finally, the open A basketball team did extremely well in finishing second in the Premiership race.

Athletics season is now under way, and I encourage as many Scotch students to come to the green grandstand and try out for this most prestigious sport. The only way Scotch is going to improve its result in the APS Athletics is if we have a higher level of participation from the student body. I know it is not compulsory to do sport at this time of the year, but it is a good opportunity to stay fit for your upcoming summer season.

The Senior Play this year was 'Macbeth'. Those who attended one of the performances would have been very impressed with this entertaining production. Congratulations to all members of the cast and crew that sacrificed many hours to achieve such a successful result. I would especially like to thank those Year 12 students involved, as this play falls right in the middle of the CAT 2 period. The other Senior Play was 'Flowers for Algernon'.

As I write this, I am looking forward to being involved in the Foundation Day Concert. The Year 11 boys are looking forward to their Dinner Dance, and I'm sure all the Year 9 students are looking forward to the Annual Cadet Camp to be held in the first week of the holidays. I can assure you, it is something you will remember for a very long time.

Thanks to those who continue to contribute to Scotch life, you do yourselves and your school credit. Good luck to all VCE students with your round one CAT results; I am sure most of you will be pleased. Keep up the good work!
