A series of concerts featuring Scotch College students was recently held at Cabrini Hospital.
Director of Music at Scotch College, John Ferguson and the Cabrini Development Manager, Wendy Brooks invited some of Melbourne's best young talent and a number of well known professional chamber musicians to present their favourite music in 45 minute programs.
This has resulted in a truly delightful series including two wonderful programs prepared by the Scotch College Piano Trio and the Scotch College String Octet.
The Scotch College Trio thrilled the audience with its masterful performance of the Beethoven 'Ghost' Trio. 'The musicians' youthful exuberance was a tonic to all,' said Wendy Brooks.
John Ferguson said 'We at Scotch College are proud of our fine music tradition and the boys are keen to share their music with an enthusiastic audience.'
Equity Trustees have assisted in funding the concerts, the musicians have all donated their time and the superb grand piano comes from Allans Music - Kew. Helen Robinett, Marketing Manager of Equity Trustees, says 'Equity is proud to be associated with these concerts which so obviously bring so much happiness to the audience'.
An average of 75 people, young and old, have attended the concerts each week with many of the 350 patients tuning in on their hospital television sets above their beds.
Due to the outstanding success of the concerts, an additional Spring Series is being planned to commence in mid October.
'This concert series has brought so much joy to the Hospital. Many clinicians and supporters of Cabrini also have a strong Scotch association and it has been a great pleasure to welcome the Scotch College musicians.' said the Cabrini Medical Director and Old Scotch Boy, A/Professor Douglas Lording ('64).
