At the end of February Mr Norm Brockhouse retired following 12 1/2 impressively successful years as Property Manager.
Norm Brockhouse was the school's major contact with building contractors during a period of almost unprecedented building development for the school. The Junior School's major extension, the Library, Computer Centre and finally Staff Complex of the Lithgow Centre, the Language and Culture Centre, the Cardinal Pavilion and the Randall Administration Building have all benefited from his careful and skilled input. The general fabric of the College, and perhaps particularly the brick work in fencing, retaining walls and landscaping also testify to his input to Scotch. There is no doubt that the physical reality of the school today has been substantially improved through his work. He also organised and supervised many 'minor capital works', including internal renovations and the building of the Rugby and Soccer pavilion, the spectator shelters and picnic areas in a manner that has drawn deserved praise from many quarters. Something of the order of $9 million worth of 'minor capital works' were completed under his control.
The ability of Scotch to provide a top quality education for all students depends on several factors, including, of course, having a high calibre teaching staff. The way in which that staff delivers its programs and activities is enormously enhanced by being able to operate in excellent facilities, and Scotch can be rightly proud of the quality of its buildings and grounds. We are therefore very grateful to Mr Norm Brockhouse for his outstandingcontribution to Scotch College and wish him well in his well-earned retirement.
Mr Neil Roberts
